Safely Wire Brush Clean your Aga Range Cooker's Ovens and Hotplates

This guide is designed specifically for AGA range cookers.
Even with all that heat, your ovens can still get a bit grubby – and sometimes, you might spot a little rust too.

In the top oven, food tends to carbonise, while the lower oven can stay a bit sticky. But don’t worry – there’s an easy fix. Just follow the steps below using our wire brush kit and your vacuum cleaner, and you’ll have everything looking clean in no time.

Please note: This guide applies to the cast iron main ovens only. It does not cover warming cupboards or module ovens on 4-oven (or larger) models.

How to Safely Wire Brush Clean Your Hotplates

1. Remove the expansion rings.
Lift the rings carefully to create a safe gap between the hotplate and surrounding enamel. Be mindful – wire brushes and enamel don’t mix!

2. Use the scraper side of the large brush.
Slowly and deliberately scrape off any thick rust or burnt-on food from the hotplate surface.

3. Switch to the small brush.
Using small circular motions and firm pressure, scrub the hotplates clean.

4. Vacuum and wipe down.
Vacuum the loose dust, then wipe the hotplates with a slightly damp e-cloth.
Also vacuum around the gap between the hotplate and hob – but go gently to avoid pulling out insulation!

5. Oil the hotplates.
Once completely dry, apply a thin layer of olive oil using kitchen roll. This helps protect the surface and keeps it looking great.

6. Replace the expansion rings.
Pop them back on. Job done – and beautifully too!
